Here’s our recommendation:
- Try positions that are comfortable for you
- Avoid anything too aggressive
- Be aware of your own desire – you may have little desire or you may find yourself having more than normal (normal, for you) levels of desire
FAQ’s about sex during pregnancy:
- 1. Will the baby feel it?
Answer: No. The baby is protected by your abdomen and uterus muscular wall and is cushioned by the amniotic sac.
- 2. Will I feel pain?
Answer: If you feel pain, then stop. Pain is not a normal part of sex during your pregnancy.
- 3. Can I have sex throughout my pregnancy?
Answer: Generally, yes.However, there are certain exceptions.If you have a high-risk pregnancy, sexual arousal (including intercourse and other forms of orgasm) are not recommended because they can trigger labor.
- You're at risk for preterm labor (contractions before 37 weeks of pregnancy)
- You're having vaginal bleeding, discharge, or cramping without a known cause
- Your amniotic sac is leaking fluid or has ruptured membranes
- Your cervix has opened too early in pregnancy
- Your placenta is too low in the uterus
- You're expecting twins, triplets, or other "multiples"
- 4. Can I have anal sex?
Answer: Yes, it’s up to you and your partner and it’s what you are comfortable with. However, women do have increased hemorrhoids during pregnancy, so if this is a problem or a concern, it should be avoided.
- 5. Can I have oral sex?
Answer: Yes, it’s up to you and your partner and it’s what you are comfortable with.
- 6. What if I have herpes or my partner has another STD?
Answer: If there is the possibility of any type of outbreak, then sex is off limits and not recommended.
